My Mother told this to me from a memory that she had from her mother (my grandmother) who would make this for her as a child.
Candied Orange Slices
Ingredients:
- 1 orange
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup water (adjust as needed)
- Additional sugar for coating
Instructions:
- Slice the orange into thin rounds.
- Remove the flesh from each slice, leaving only the peel and a thin layer of pith.
- In a saucepan, combine the water and sugar, then bring to a simmer.
- Add the orange slices to the saucepan and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Keep an eye on the water level to ensure it doesn’t evaporate completely. Add a little more water if needed.
- Remove the slices from the syrup and let them dry slightly on a paper towel.
- Dredge each slice in sugar, coating both sides evenly.
- Place the sugared slices on a drying rack and let them air dry completely.
