My Mother told this to me from a memory that she had from her mother (my grandmother) who would make this for her as a child.

Candied Orange Slices

Ingredients:

  • 1 orange
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water (adjust as needed)
  • Additional sugar for coating

Instructions:

  1. Slice the orange into thin rounds.
  2. Remove the flesh from each slice, leaving only the peel and a thin layer of pith.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the water and sugar, then bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the orange slices to the saucepan and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Keep an eye on the water level to ensure it doesn’t evaporate completely. Add a little more water if needed.
  6. Remove the slices from the syrup and let them dry slightly on a paper towel.
  7. Dredge each slice in sugar, coating both sides evenly.
  8. Place the sugared slices on a drying rack and let them air dry completely.
